Collaborations between pop stars and brands are nothing new but in recent years, there seems to be a spike in collaborations that take things to a whole new level of creativity. Enter the era of reworked song lyrics to promote anything from a specific product to diversity and inclusion! Here are five such examples starting with this recently released campaign collab from T-Pain and Wendy's.
Buy U A Frosty | Wendy's | VMLY&R | 2023
Reimagine the song 'Buy U a Drink' to promote Wendy's summer Frosty. T-Pain has teamed up with Wendy's to create a summer collaboration featuring a new song and music video called "Buy U a Frosty", which is a reimagined take on the singer’s hit single ‘Buy U a Drink.” The campaign video, directed by Miles & AJ, reveals T-Pain's love for Wendy's Frosty in a nostalgic and fun-filled way. The video starts with T-Pain in his studio, which transforms into a Wendy's where Frosty treats abound. T-Pain performs a summer anthem, but as he finishes his Frosty, the special effects vanish, and he realizes he's been in a Frosty-induced daze sitting at a Wendy's booth all along. Last year's success with the Strawberry Frosty raised expectations, leading to this partnership with T-Pain to create a hit for Wendy's fans. The track will be available on TikTok, and Wendy's will curate exclusive content featuring the song, ensuring easy access for fans.
Typically: #NoShameHere | Bloody Good Period | Mother | 2023
Embrace the realities of menstruation to remove shame with a song about periods. Bloody Good Period, a charity that works to combat period poverty in the UK, hopes to overcome period shame with this positive and upbeat ad. CeCe Pensiton's optimistic song Finally has been given a makeover for the two-minute ad – the song was renamed Typically and features period-positive lyrics about experiences and situations many people who bleed will recognise. The celebratory ad has been released ahead of Menstrual Hygiene Day and comes at a time when demand for period poverty assistance has increased because of the pandemic. With this vibrant animated ad, Bloody Good Period hopes to help tackle the period taboo, particularly at work where symptoms are often hidden out of embarrassment.
Bagel Is Back | Chex Miz | Content+ | 2023
Reimagine the song Baby Got Back to be about bagel snacks. Chex Mix, the popular snack brand, partnered with rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot to create a new track that puts a twist on his famous song, "Baby Got Back." The lyrics were updated to focus on the reintroduction of bagel chips into Chex Mix's original recipe. Chex Mix fans have been requesting the return of bagel chips for years, and the brand responded to their demands, in no small part thanks to the rapper. Previously, Sir Mix-A-Lot had expressed his surprise at the absence of bagel chips in his Chex Mix bag in a YouTube video, urging the brand to bring them back. Mission accomplished.
The Dark Side Of Sugar | Action On Sugar | Serviceplan | 2021
Reimagine songs about sugar as metal covers to show the other side of consumption. It’s a little-known fact that someone dies from type 2 diabetes every eight seconds. Food manufacturers continue to add sugar into food where it isn’t expected. To help highlight this, Action On Sugar created a campaign designed to get this fact the attention it deserves. Sweet-sounding pop songs were covered by metal band Risen from Shadows to show an unexpected side to these pop hits. Songs like Candy by Doja Cat and Harry Styles’ Watermelon Sugar were all given a dark makeover. The band used its bio, music video and website to teach people how to look for hidden sugar in their food. Launched on World Diabetes Day, the music video highlighted the 26 places where unexpected sugar might be found.
